My First Solo Exhibit!

Starting 2024 on a high note – I'm thrilled to share some exciting news!

I'll be showcasing my artwork at the Block Island Airport. After navigating through numerous setbacks last year, this opportunity for my first solo exhibit feels like a big milestone!!!

Although it's not your typical gallery space, having a public venue just for my art is beyond surreal. The exhibition is set to run from January to mid-July, offering a chance for visitors to immerse themselves in my creations.

If you ever find yourself on Block Island, I invite you to swing by the airport for a pit

stop to experience the intricate details of my artwork up close. Seeing the pieces in person allows you to explore all the fine details that may not fully show through photographs.

To make this exhibit truly special, I've curated a selection of pieces tailored to the island's demographic. Given the island setting, I've chosen to show my favorite coral reef pieces, including some from my latest collection and a couple others painted earlier that I feel would complement the overall aesthetic.

These pieces hold a special place in my heart, and after pouring so much dedication into them, I'm excited to share their beauty with as many people as possible. The installation is scheduled for the last week of January, right at the break of dawn.

Joining forces with the gallery coordinator, I'll be bundled up in layers, facing the (in my strong opinion) freezing cold temperature on the ferry as we kick off this cool journey together.

Artist Statement

Illuminated by UV black-light, my artwork delves into the intricacies of the human experience. These pieces draw inspiration from the Caribbean waters, particularly my family’s homeland, the Dominican Republic's coral reefs.

Acting as a dreamy escape, my collection 'Looking Inwards' explores themes of mental health, identity, and the interconnectedness of our world. These works serve as a tribute to the transformative power of self-exploration and mental health, highlighting the importance of cultivating a healthy and balanced internal ecosystem. Just as a coral reef requires a delicate balance of nutrients, light, and space to thrive, we too must attend to the needs of our own mental landscapes in order to achieve optimal health.

As my pieces are inspired by nature, I think it's important that we take a moment to acknowledge how the things we do may impact the natural world. Without our natural world- filled with beautiful and rich resources, we wouldn't survive as a species. So, I thank mother nature for allowing us to coexist within each other.

With that being said, these artworks not only explore the human psyche, but also advocates for climate action, drawing attention to the endangered state of coral reefs worldwide (ex. bleached coral reef paintings). A portion of the proceeds from all of my coral reef paintings will be donated to projects dedicated to coral preservation and ocean conservation 🪸.

I'd like to thank everyone for supporting this art journey throughout the years, and also the RISCA team for giving me this opportunity to showcase my work here.

If you ever stop by the block island airport, I'd love for you to send me a picture on Instagram of you there!!!

Love all,

Fior :)
